April 18, 1863
I have met with a sad loss, Allie. My memorandum book with your and Lulu’s picture is gone and I feel almost alone! Have tried to find it and may yet. Can’t account for it for I have taken so much pain to keep it safe. I despair of keeping anything precious here but in memory they will live.
Will write the friends as I can. I mailed you a letter at Cincin…
…soon. I shall be anxious to hear of your movements.
Thurs. P.M. Took a stroll out of camp with Ben E. and had a delightful time and got some pie and milk and saw a pretty lady. Also gathered some flowers which I enclose.
