Fredericksburg – Sund. P.M. 14 Dec 62
Dear Ones
They say I can get a line home, and it must be but a line. I wrote you the 11, or 12, when Fred[e]ricksburg was on fire. I[t] was torn to pieces. We crossed the river the next day and are as yet Safe not having been [in] Action but don’t know how soon.
Am very well indeed & fine weather. Please let the friends know that much[.] Jos. H is well[.] Bear up and remember I am ever thinking of you my dear ones. In haste

Your Jerome
